Spanky Stokes is a website that posts news on art, vinyl toys, culture, & everything in between! John “Spanky” Stokes has kindly reviewed our new “Know Your Destination” theme now available at the Envee Apparel Store.

“Their clothing looks fresh, and is available in both Men’s and Women’s styles, and know that when you purchase a shirt from these guys it goes directly to the artist, and not to some department store, so help em’ out and send some love their way. Also, keep watching for more updates from Envee because they have a lot of great stuff planned in the near future!”

VERDE BMX x ESTATE LA Fitted Baseball Cap Photo

ESTATE LA is making a jump further into the realm action sports. BMX has been a long-time love of ESTATE LA family. The brand’s flagship store in Venice stocks BMX frames and accessories and is the staff’s most common mode of transportation.

VERDE BMX is one of the leaders of the new school bmx movement. Created by Cory Muth and Steve Buddedeck, former marketeers of the BMX scene, VERDE (trans. Blood Is The New Black

Blood Is The New Black Photo

I am super over screen printed shirts and then sites like this come along that totally re-kindle my love fetish. Blood Is The New Black is a bad website with some great artists and really good prices on shirts. Get them before they get ripped off by H&M.

Tris - Free iPhone Tetris

Written by Robert on August 16, 2008 – 8:00 am -

EA’s version of Tetris was fine. There was nothing hugely wrong with it, except that price. And since we’ve all paid for Tetris before on one platform or another, we’ll gladly settle for the iPhone’s free version of Tetris called Tris. Move pieces by sliding your finger back and forth and rotate them by tapping anywhere on the screen. The controls are quite responsive and, yes, the entire design feels like Tetris.

Some updates we’d like to see in a 1.1 version include line completion animation and the ability to rotate pieces before the are wholly on screen (whether or not this is an official break of Tetris rules, tapping just doesn’t do the job when you are stacked high on the board). Still, very, very solid showing. Here’s a clip of the game in motion that, as the pre-pubescent voice will reveal, we did not record:Quick! Everyone download it before EA and Russia team up to sue the developer! [Tris]

Vintage Novelty Pistol Gun Hairdryer

Written by Robert on August 11, 2008 – 7:00 am -

Vintage Novelty Pistol Gun Hairdryer Photo

The Vintage Novelty Pistol Gun Hairdryer, I love this gun hairdryer, funny! A working, fantastic condition, rare vintage novelty hair dryer, complete with white plastic holster. No electrocution worries, the silver gun material is plastic as well. Pull the hammer (on top) to the desired heat setting, squeeze the trigger and let’er rip.

3-D Business Cards

Written by Robert on August 8, 2008 – 7:34 am -

3d-business-1.jpg

Some guy named Emerson Taymor had himself some 3-D business cards made. It probably isn’t a new idea, but hey, it’s the first I’ve seen it. Regardless, I found them kind of questionable (even ignoring the goofy picture). Don’t get me wrong: I love wearing 3-D glasses as much as the next guy that dropped acid with his bagel this morning, I’m just saying they seem gimmicky. But being the intrepid reporter that I am, I gave Emerson the benefit of the doubt. So I visited his website to find out what kind of act he performs for birthday parties that warrants such an unusual card, and hello placeholder! Wow Emerson, I don’t even know if you can make balloon animals. But you have inspired me. To include a phone number on my business card that I may activate some time in the future.

Nike "Eggplant" Flightposite 1

Written by Robert on May 18, 2008 – 10:06 pm -

The Flightposite is one of those rare love it or hate it shoes. While some may consider the shoe’s design unorthodox to say the least, the shoe does have a steady cult following of supporters. This colorway alongside the indestructible foot-forming (albeit heavy) Foamposite upper is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated for Nike heads. Look for it to release in December 2008 with a price tag of 0 US.

Fresh By A Ring Of Blue Light

Written by Robert on May 13, 2008 – 10:49 am -

We all love fruit but they’re not exactly cheap and usually demand to be eaten sooner than later, otherwise the ravages of time wreak havoc on them. Blue is a concept fruit bowl that utilizes Action Fresh Blue technology - the same one found in the Halo vacuum and many new refrigerators. The blue wavelength inhibits and kills bacteria thereby prolonging shelf life.

The fruits retain their nutritional value and you get a cool looking dockable, rechargeable bowl to boot. If that still doesn’t convince you, how about the thought of a cool blue glowing ring of light? I mean just that alone is enough to make me wanna go out and get one.

Would you like to be a train pusher?

Written by Robert on April 15, 2008 – 7:11 am -

This is the job I want when I grow up. And no, not because it gives you a great opportunity to cop the occasional feel.

Oshiya, or “pusher”, is an informal Japanese term for a worker who stands on the platform of a railway station during the morning and evening rush hours, and pushes people onto the train. This video is a good example of just how crowded it gets on Japanese trains.

Oh man that’s great. I love how the pusher starts shoving the guy in the white coat when he’s nowhere near the door. So awesome. I could totally do that for a living. I’d love my job so much I’d even go above and beyond the call of duty, constantly honing my ability to efficiently get people on the train. I’ve already got a few new proprietary techniques in mind. Namely kicking and pile driving.

Tandem face-to-face bike is great for first dates

Written by Robert on April 10, 2008 – 9:31 am -

Tandem face-to-face bike is great for first dates

What better way to acquaint yourself with a new love than riding with them on a completely ridiculous and presumably extremely complicated face-to-face tandem bike? Taiwanese inventor Chen Yugang decided to kick it up a notch and develop a bike that is as dangerous as it is ridiculous. Apparently, his new design can be ridden face to face, conventionally or (and here is the real kicker) back to back for couples looking to add a little rush to their romantic life.

Will the face-to-face bike be the next Razer scooter? Probably not, but it’s a nice gimmick.
