Paysafecard Advertisements
Written by Robert on March 26, 2009 – 9:10 am -

The TRAKTOR Wien Campaign for online prepaid-card paysafecard ventures into the realm of online-gaming and MMORPGs with the slogan „Don’t let your hero down“.
The Idea: „When gamers neglect their heroes in the gaming-world because they don’t know how to pay online, their heroes need to find another way of making a living. If neccessary with crappy temporary jobs“, according to the Agency. The Campaign encompasses classic print-ads, online-banners, viral-spots, 3D- animations and a raffle at http://www.heldenhilfe.com/.

Weingart Homeless Center
Written by Robert on March 26, 2009 – 9:08 am -

To raise awareness for the Weingart Homeless Center, they took a non traditional approach that made people imagine themselves homeless if only for a moment. They photographed a dozen of the 70.000 people living on the streets of Los Angeles. They gave each of them a blank cardboard sign and had them write the same message: Before you turn away, put yourself in my place. Followed by the URL, weingart.org. Then they took those images, blew them up life-size, removed their faces and made them into photo-realistic cardboard cutouts. They placed the cutouts in upscale shopping centers in Bevery Hills and Santa Monica. Soon the homeless could not be ignored. This project not only raised awareness, but it ultimately raised funds.
Agency: David & Goliath Los Angeles, USA.

Trailer: Where the Wild Things Are
Written by Robert on March 26, 2009 – 9:07 am -
The Trailer for ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ is released. They are doing a really good job of only keeping this video on Apple.com so here is the Link to the trailer.
Just from the artwork above they already took this movie to the next level graphically. It is nice to see another movie taking a VERY common childhood memory and turning it into something enjoyable to adults and children.
Many people expect it, and it will hit theaters on October 16th 2009. Directed by Spike Jonze. Photo from USAtoday.

No matter how many times we collaborate with him, we can always count on Kanye to come with a completely original idea when it’s time do a cover story. And as you probably guessed from the preview he posted on his blog back in January, we’ve got something really special planned for our April/May 2009 issue.
The magazine officially hits stands on April 7, but you can check out the full story now, along with the futuristic photo shoot, co-created with photographer/director Chris Milk. How did we make the hi-tech computer generated imagery? Watch the video below to see the whole process…

Develop Film in Coffee and Vitamin C
Written by Robert on March 24, 2009 – 12:21 pm -
It turns out that it’s possible to develop film in a mixture of instant coffee, washing soda and vitamin C. This is, to me, amazing. Here’s the recipe.
12 oz. water
5 teaspoons instant coffee crystals
3 1/2 teaspoons washing soda
1/2 teaspoon vitamin C powder
Dubbed cafenol (its a geeky photochem joke), the developer is used just like a regular developing solution, only you can make it by raiding the kitchen cupboard (apart from the instant coffee, of course. We know you all have French presses and espresso machines). You will still need a real fixer solution to deactivate the light sensitive materials, and you’ll need to take the same care in loading the film into a developing tank as you would if using regular ol’ Perceptol, but the results are surprisingly good.
Cafenol will turn any film into a black and white negative, similar in effect to cross processing (developing a slide film in color print film chemicals, for example), and you’ll still want to keep the extractor fan running. Despite the ingredients, this mixture is foul smelling. Photojojo:
Holy frijoles! How can things that smell like coffee, nothing, and nothing combine to smell like grim death?
Also, don’t drink it. One thing about this hack that isn’t surprising is that there is a Flickr group dedicated to cafenol photos. And it goes without saying that if you do try this at home, post your results to the Gadget Lab Flickr pool.

Collapsible Carbon Fiber Surfboards
Written by Robert on March 3, 2009 – 8:56 am -Carbon Fiber ‘C2′ Breaks Down in Half to Fit Car and Home.

The ‘C2’ carbon fiber concept can be broken down LEGO-style by simply removing two pins and a quick release level, thus reducing its size by half. You will no longer have to go through the tedious roof rack-stacking, nor will you straggle to fit your beloved gear at your place. In complete collapse, though, the number of minute parts that make up this surfboard are overwhelming and should definitely be kept away from children under 7 years old.
Nonetheless, this attractive concept is reportedly designed carefully so as to maintain the balance and weight of its traditional counterpart, while it also employs a hot-swappable fin system to add to the board’s style and functionality. But whether its connecting metal pieces will be a burn hazard for the unsuspecting surfer still remains a mystery.

Impossible, Rule-Bending Mirrors
Written by Robert on February 25, 2009 – 3:00 pm -
Andrew Hicks is a mathematician. And he uses those math skills, coupled with a little computer algorithm assistance, to create mirrors that accomplish feats like reflecting text without turning the writing backwards.
His mirrors can reflect wider angles, capture 360-degree panoramas without distortion and even reflect vast amounts of infrared data (to measure body temperature).
New Scientist has a complete blow-by-blow of Hicks’ creations, but this lead shot is of a wide angle mirror free of distortion—lines that are straight in the real world remain perfectly straight on the mirror. Who would need such a thing? It’s implemented in a stair-climbing robot that requires precision angle information for each step.

Justine Ashbee in Barcelona
Written by Robert on February 10, 2009 – 12:10 pm -
“The amorphous entities and reaching tentacles emerge and take form much like the navigation of a surfer within a wave. These drawings are executed purely by hand, using Sharpie pens. I begin with a curve, from which lines and forms begin to emerge, evolve, morph, and grow organically, in an intuitive flow, while maintaining delicate, elegant precision…”
